WePaint is an attractive and comprehensive image editing tool. It comes with all the filters and effects that any amateur photographer will ever need to enhance and perform minor corrections in their photo albums. Its ribbon-based and elegant interface groups most of the program’s functionality in a single window, making it an intuitive editor suitable for all types of users.
WePaint supports more than forty different image file formats, including not only the usual suspects – JPG, BMP, TIFF or GIF – but also some of the most widely used RAW image formats. This will allow you not only to work with the highest quality standards, but also to use this application as a RAW conversion tool.
When it comes to functionality, do not expect to find the same plethora of functions, effects, and filters provided by fully-fledged and professional tools like Corel Photo-Paint or Adobe’s Photoshop. However, do not expect to find the average inexpensive image editing tool either. With a much lower tag price, WePaint not only looks professional but also comes with truly professional functionality. It supports layers, offers you more than a hundred art brushes, dozens of effects, of clip art shapes, wands and lassos, etc. It does not matter if all you need to do is simply correct those common exposure mistakes we all usually make, or if you want to transform your images into works of art – WePaint offers you enough functionality to excel on both. And it is all there, in the program’s main interface. To achieve that, it wisely combines a ribbon-based menu design with side bars and the more traditional tool panels present in most image editing tools.
Instead of enumerating the long list of brushes, effects, filters, and clip arts WePaint provides, I think it is more useful to note some of the extra functionality that you will find here and you will not usually find in many other similar tools – namely, its screenshot capture utility and its “social media integration” tools. The screenshot functionality allows you to capture any section of your computer’s screen and even take a snapshot of the image coming through your Web cam. It is basically a full application in itself, which iWesoft actually offers for free as a stand-alone tool under the name of “Free Screenshot Capture”.
The “social media integration” refers to the possibility of sharing your image collection without leaving WePaint. We are not talking here about the possibility of attaching your image files to an e-mail message and send it out to your friends and relatives – WePaint interacts seamlessly with Facebook, Twitpic, Picassa Web, Flickr, Imageshack, Photobucket, Dropbox, Google Docs, etc., so that you can upload your edited images to your favorite social networks just as you have been doing all along, but without leaving WePaint.
To sum up, WePaint is a professional-looking image editing tool with useful extra functionality, with most of the features you will find in “truly professional” editors, and without the sky-rocketing tag prices and the “only-for-pros” jargon.
